Recollections of William J. "Bill" Alexander

by Dorothy Franch Logan (daughter of Ora's sister, May Yarger Franch)

I was about 2 years old when Ora Alexander died so I don't remember her but I do have fond memories of Bill, her husband. I can remember Uncle Bill coming to visit us in Winton when I was a little girl. He had a pocket watch that played music when he opened it. He would always give me a dollar to go to the company store and buy penny candy. A dollar bought a lot of candy in those days. I would share it with my sisters. I also remember visiting at his ranch at Cora. There was a milk separator on the back porch and decals on the kitchen cupboards. Kerosene lamps were the only lights. There was a bookshelf in the living room full of National Geographic magazines. Bud's boys were usually around teasing my sisters. I was too young, I guess. I remember a trip to swim at Granite Hot Springs and Bill was with us. I have a picture of us "bathing beauties" that Lolly sent to my sister Jane. I always thought it was funny how all of Bill and Ora's kids had nicknames. I was named for Dorothy (Babe) and my husband sometimes calls me Babe. - January 5, 2004.
