Ora
on her wedding day (1909). Louise relayed
to her daughter, Judy, that Ora made the
dress. Louise showed Judy the blouse of it and pointed out the
fine hand stitching. According to Louise's sister, Ruth, their Mom’s wedding
dress was apparently used to make clothes for the older girls. Said
their mother was an excellent seamstress, liked to sew and made nearly all of their clothes. Said when
their Dad shipped the cattle to Omaha, he would bring home 1-2 nice dresses for her.
In addition to being an excellent seamstress, she was an excellent cook. Remarked on how skilled she was at being able to put together good food on short notice. Seems there were nearly always “guests” at mealtimes, and if someone showed up in between,
she would whip something up in a jiffy. Said she thought she’d learned a lot of her cooking skills from a Mrs. Hill, for whom she had worked before marriage.
