E. E. Alexander Dead at Age 82

E. E. Alexander, 82, longtime resident of Burris, Wyoming, died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Bishop Randall hospital in Lander where he had been a patient for a short time.

Alexander came to the Wyoming territory in 1886 and has resided in the Burris country for 40 years. He operated the Burris store until his retirement about three years ago.

Services are pending with the Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Services were held Friday at the Davis Funeral Home for Esley E. (Alec) Alexander of Burris, who died Wednesday last week at Bishop Randall hospital in Lander, at the age of 82.

The elderly man had lived in Burris for forty years. He was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1873, the son of Eugene and Nancy Alexander, and came as a child with his parents to Yankton, S.D.

The family came to Wyoming when he was thirteen, and homesteaded on New Park creek west of Pinedale. Mr. Alexander spent several years with the U.S. Geological Survey in the Wind River mountains from South Pass to Jackson, and also worked for the Forestry department at the Dutch Joe ranger station.

Later he ran sheep in the Casper area. He moved back to Wind River in 1920, worked with the highway department, and in 1927 built the Burris store.

His wife, the former Emily Mayback, died at Burris in 1929. Surviving are a son, Joe Alexander of Burris, a brother William of Cora, and three grandchildren.

The Rev. C. E. Wilson officiated at Friday's services, and burial was at Mountain View cemetery.

Casket bearers were Carl Shatto, Don Presgrove, Dan Merrill, Larry Miller, Fremont Miller, and Bob Seaton. Honorary casket bearers were John Pop, Landis Stoll, Scott Peterson, Tom Burlingham, Cy Tjomsland, Fred Stratton, Sr., and Frank Whipple.
