Letter to Frank from Fred Brown, dated 9-4-1919
Kennydale, Sept 4, 1919
Dear Friend Frank.
I thought i would drop you a line just to see if a letter would find you. Fred said he didn't think that you would get it. We are in the good old U.S.A. once again. Gee but it seems good to. We have a place here 2 acres. A blame sight better one than Mr. Browns is and lots more fruit on it only put about 1 acre under cultivation, lots of flowers and berries on the place and a 5 roomed house but the rooms are small for 27 hundred and the very day we got it we could of sold it for 3 thousand and land is still comming up around here we are just 3 blocks one way to the boat landing on lake Wash and 5 blocks from the other one at the little town Kennydale.

We are just 16 miles from the heart of seattle We take the Rainer Beach car out from 4 avenue to Rainer Beach and take the boat arrow across to the Kennydale dock the first stop after they cross the lake and the old Chapman place is the one that we have.

Freds Brother George was asking about you and wondering if you would want to tackle fishing fish is as high right here as they were up there. After the old man got done with him he was broke and a hundred in the whole.

Well Frank, Rody and Wila had the trifhoid fever and little George got his left elbow threw out of place but is all right now.

Will I will close for this time hoping that you will write verry soon.

Address Mr. Fred Brown

Pinedale Wyo
Jan. 17 - 1923
Dear Uncle Frank:
I don’t remember whether I answered your last letter or not. We have been having quite a time down here I have had the pneumonia, been in bed five weeks and Jack has been in bed four weeks with the bronchitis. The rest of them has had bad colds. Us three kids started to school here in Pinedale last Sept. Tuff is the only one able to go. Jack and I are up about the house but we haven’t been out-side yet. Grand-dad and dad are alone up on the ranch this winter.
The new county officers are moving into town to take up their business.
Have you done any trapping this winter. I see by the St. Louis fur market that furs are up pretty high again. Coyotes up to $30, Beaver $30, martin $60, muskrats $5. How is the weather up there this winter. It held off pretty good down here, but when it did come it put down a lot of snow they say there is over three feet at home, there isn’t much over a foot here in town.
Well I guess I will ring off. answer as soon as you can and let us know how you are.
Lloyd.

Mr Frank Alexander
Fort St John B C
Dear Frank I received your letter of July 25th in the latter part of Aug or fore part of Sept. Was glad to hear from you and to know you are getting along all right Have often wondered if you were still looking for Old Lee and myself I expect you think we are a couple of awful liars. The thruth (sic) of the matter is I think Lee is a worlds beater (?) because I don’t think he ever intended to come He was engaged to Cora Holt when he was talking to me about coming up to see you and he knew he wouldn’t go any place They were married some time in July so that settles his going any place for sometime But I am going to make a desperate effort to come up and go hunting with you before we get too old to hunt. How is the game and fur up there this fall and winter. Or have you hunted or trapped any The game is getting pretty scarce here. Will soon be a thing of the past.
Carl Rungius lives at Banff BC now or at least he lives there most of his time. How is the winter up there this year The winter has been a little better here this time didn’t start in so early and we haven’t as much snow as usual for this time of year. How is Old George this winter is he still trying to trap. Billie Enos died day before yesterday he cut his hand when sawing wood about ten days ago blood-poisen (sic) set in and finally finished him. I don’t remember whether I ever told you about John Rahm killing himself or not anyway he did a finished job of it. He did the job a year a go last summer.
Jim and the Kid came over last fall and stayd (sic) a fiew (sic) days Well Frankie there isn’t much news here now except the Kids have all had the measels (sic) they all got along all right and are around again. Grandad (sic) and Charlies folks are all right so far this winter. Charlie and Roy Bird went up to Vander hoff B C this last fall but didn’t like it up there Roy says it is all timber says you couldn’t find a place big enough to whip a dog on. They wanted to come up where you are but didn’t have the time.
Guess this is about all I can think of this time & will close. With Love from all W J Alexander

Cora Wyo.
April 29, 1924
Dear Uncle Frank,
I received your letter and was very glad to know you are well. We are all pretty well too.
I should think you would get terribly lonesome up there alone. I know I would.
I am glad that you and Mr. Campbell are having good luck at traping (sic). He got a pretty good price for his furs.
It isn’t very good traping (sic) here any more although Pat Dew and Mike O’Black get a few furs.
I haven’t grown much I don’t think since I saw you last but I am a lot taller. Yes Jiggs and Bill still fight but they haven’t got any black eyes lately.
The snow went off earlier than usual this year. Most of it was off by the 20th of April, but there has been snow storms since.
You must come to see us some day soon. I do wish you would. I haven’t seen you for so long. I am to take part in a spelling contest. The best speller or spellers from each school goes to the county seat to spell.
All of us kids have grown quite a bit. Ruth and Dorothy are getting to be big girls now two (sic).
Jiggs is in the sixth grade also Bud, Bill is in the 1st grade and I am in the eighth.
He hasn’t got any sheep yet. But I guess he wants to. Several have sold their cows and got sheep.
No, I don’t think Daddy is mad. I believe he wrote sometime ago but you probably haven’t got it. The mail is slow all over I think. It surely is here, especially when you want something. “Ha! Ha!”
Lloyd and Grandad (sic) are pretty well I think also. Uncle Charlies. Aunt Grace and Uncle Charley were to Rocks (sic) Springs this week. Uncle Jim’s are well as far a (sic) I know. Jim and Elliott where out last summer.
Well I must close as it(sic) supper time and I will miss my supper. With best wishes to the trappers and Good luck.
