Recollection
of Ruth "Lolly" Alexander Bryant of a prank played on teacher
Celia Alexander. When
Celia was her 1st grade teacher, there was a large globe which was
suspended above the classroom, with rope and a weight as counter
balance. It was lowered for geography lessons then raised out of
the way. She had also made a tall, sloping wastebasket from heavy
cardboard and decorated it with pictures from magazines. Celia keep her
teaching outfit at the school and went to and from in her "gubbies".
Seems that after school one time, Bill and Oscar returned to the school
house and turned the wastebasket upside down and "dressed" it
with her teaching outfit. She doesn't recall what other accessories
there were but was sure that wasn't all. They suspended this by the
globe rope for her return the following morning. Guess she wasn't real
impressed. Lolly claims the boys never "fessed up," but
guessed Celia knew who would do such a thing.
