My father always told me that William Alexander came over in the ship "Lions" which was next in line to the Mayflower. (If true I'm not sure.)
William Alexander came from Scotland (Ireland?) and settled first at Dedham,
Massachusetts where he courted his lady who became his wife. In 1747, William Alexander came to New Marlborough, Mass., and staked out a piece of land and built a cabin on it, being one of the first and earliest settlers. Then he went back to Dedham and brought his wife (Mary Fisher) on horseback to his new home in New
Marlborough, Mass. They had a son William 2nd and a daughter who married an Everett and there may have been other children, too.
William Alexander 2nd married Mollie Wright, the daughter of Deacon Wright, of New Marlborough. They both died in one week of epidemic fever in 1814 and are buried in the New Marlborough Cemetery.
Their children were:
1. Obadian -- died young
2. Mollie -- married John Hines and settled in Pennsylvania
3. William -- married _______ Hurlburt " " Pompey, New York (now LaFayette)
4. Lucy -- married Abram Knapp " " " " "
5. Louisa -- married Jabez Hurlburt " " Lyons, "
6. John -- married Rachel Hine " " Pompey, " "
7. James -- married Katie Clark " " Lyons, "
8. Jane -- married John Hall " " New Marlborough, Mass.
9. Patrick -- married Sallie Forsyth " " " " "
10. David -- married Mary Hall " " " " "
11. Caroline -- married Anson Faskett " " Winslow, Conn.
Winalow, Conn.
You will notice that six of the eleven children emigrated with their families
to Western New York and Pennsylvania, being pioneers in the then new country. Many other families went at the same time from Berkshire County. Two of the brothers came
back to visit their native town in years David Alexander was alive and he went to visit them on horseback which was a long ride indeed.
